Description
Tata Steel’s New Materials Business is among the few in India to leverage the properties of FRP for high-pressure vessels for water filtration. The corrosion-resistant properties of these vessels make them ideal for usage, especially when coupled with their durability, low maintenance requirements, and high-quality output.
Water filtration is a sustained high growth segment in India, driven largely by the scarcity of potable drinking water in the country. Uncontrolled lifting of underground water for agriculture, and real estate construction has resulted in contamination of water resources. FRP Pressure Vessels solve most of the issues faced in these segments and help to ensure a supply of potable, clean water.
Manufacturing and design
FRP Pressure Vessels are made by a process called filament winding that uses a rotating mould made of fibre reinforced polymer. A combination of resin-dipped glass fibre and other additives makes it lightweight, corrosion resistant, durable, and easy to install. FRP Pressure Vessels can also be used as temporary storage for compressed air.
Applications
FRP Pressure Vessels find their uses in water filtration (RO) units for residential, commercial, and industrial segments. They act as containers to hold media filters such as sand, gravel, and activated charcoal and are operated under pressure provided by means of a pump. This process removes the suspended and dissolved iron and manganese particles, in addition to reducing turbidity. The water then passes through a host of membranes by Reverse Osmosis, for further removal of dissolved chemicals. Finally, it becomes safe for consumption.
New Materials Business offers FRP Pressure Vessels of 24” to 72” in height, up to a capacity of 3,790 litres.
